Farmers Market Vegetables

I love making meals out of just vegetable this time of the year. What I like even more is pickled beets, pickled cucumbers, just about anything pickled!

Here is a extremely easy way to get my pickled fixed right from refrigerator, I have done both cucumbers and beets with this method

Wash beets well; cut off leaves about an inch above beets. Cook in boiling water for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until tender. Cool; rub off skins, trim, and slice.

Peel cucumbers and slice.

Cover sliced or wedged beets or cucumbers with 2 parts vinegar/1 part water. Add sugar, salt, black pepper to your taste. Cover and refrigerate, ready to eat in 30 minutes and will keep in the fridge for a week—but not in my house.

Inspired by Nature Gifts – 1850 Fire Agate Beads

Every time I see someones art or the gift of nature’s beauty I’m inspired! With some, the inspiration is so powerful I have to weave some beads and create a little piece of art myself! It’s a thrilling ride, a color festival and I don’t want to go home.

Again it’s time to share a powerful gift of nature and man, a string of vintage 1850 faceted agate beads lead me to create several visual experiences that will delight the eyes and lift the spirits! Color guaranteed!

I came across this string of 1850 agates at a antique shop in northern Minnesota. The fire agate colors just blew me away, black, gray, golden red, amber, deep burnt orange. Every bead is different from the next and all are individually amazing.

The agates originated from a factory in Germany in 1850, how they arrived at the antique shop in Minnesota I don’t know, but it must have been a amazing journey!

I split the string of agates thinking I would use one or two in different jewelry pieces. I found three that were small enough to fit in with my free form peyote stitch bracelets and the rest I would work into necklaces and brooches. I also wanted to have bead work included in each piece using the agate and bead work together or bead while closely observing the transition of vivid color in each agate with the fine gray lines that separate those wonderful colors. Such fun trying to duplicate nature.

Powderhorn Art Fair Award Winner 2010 -Community Show Case Award

It just hit me…I WON, I WON!! I had the most wonderful surprise yesterday, as I worked a two day art show at the Powderhorn Art Fair in Minneapolis, I won the “Best Of” for the Community Showcase, the artist whose work best represents the unique qualities found in the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood!

This award was the “cherry on top” of a fun filled weekend! I worked in the same tent with two of the most talented and fun women, Rebecca from Ideal Jewels and Linda Taylor of Linda Taylor. Besides sharing the tent we also shared the sizzling heat and humidity and gave each other deserving breaks for the much needed water and the amazing food that Powderhorn supplied for their artist, big big thank you to all the Powderhorn volunteers.

Besides all the laughter, family and friends, the customers were plentiful and it was such fun visiting with them about my jewelry and watching their pleased faces as they surveyed my booth….again much much gratitude!

The Celtic knot symbol is also referred to as the mystic knot, or the endless knot. In viewing these beautiful knots we cannot see a beginning or end, and therefore we are reminded of the timeless nature of our spirit.

Timeless nature of our spirit, what a beautiful thought, our essence, our talent, our gift, whatever that may be is now remembered and part of this time we are here!
